In Memoriam 2025

Remembering our departed community members

CMC remembers our community members who have passed away in 2025. See our website for links to articles and obituaries. If you know of others we should include in this list, please notify us and we’ll add it to this online version.

John Dickinson, CMC supporter.

Isaka Shamsud-Din, renowned painter and social justice and civil rights advocate, died at age 84. The mural that welcomes visitors

in CMC’s lobby was painted by him in 2002, commissioned by the CMC Inc. Board of Directors. The work features likenesses some of his children who attended CMC, including JeNisa Reed (violin), one of our first Dorothea Lensch Award recipients. ee also: https://www.orartswatch.org/isaka-shamsud-din-portlands-voice-of-determined-joy/

Bonnie Garrett, CMC’s harpsichord instructor in the twenty-teens, taught piano and harpsichord at Reed College for nearly four decades. As harpsichordist, Bonnie performed with Portland Baroque Orchestra, Oregon Bach Festival, the Oregon Symphony, and with numerous other groups & festivals.

Marcia Marvin, CMC supporter.

We lost two long-time CMC supporters who were also grandparents of CMC students/alumni: Janice Van Dyke (Liam and Fiona Dubay), and Grey Wolfe (Blaire Wolfe-Rocca).
